What People say about Indian Premier League

Fristly let us not compare soccer to cricket. Both forms of sports have there owm fan following. Yes soccer players make 10 times the money cricketers do.But someday it had to start and it has started for cricketers. Money factor will keep growing and there is no looking back from here. Yes cricketers do deserve it. They equally work hard as other sportman do. I give IPL thumbs up and best part is to see best players of the world make different combinations and national teamates playe against each other. Forge sledging, Cricket is more than that.

The IPL is a non-event for me. I can’t get in to in anyway, yet I love the 20/20 concept. I like all 3 forms of the game. Maybe it’s because I don’t have any connection with the teams like I would with national representive team. As for IPL displacing soccer, that’s almost laughable. I don’t care much for soccer myself, but lets face it, it is the sport played all over the world and enjoyed by hundreds of millions if not billions of people. Yes, it’s not as fast paced as 20/20 cricket, but it has something that endures and I don’t think 20/20 has that nor has it the appeal for the masses, American or else where, outside the playing nations.

I think Cricket will regain its past glory due to IPL. It will become the richest and most watched sports in the entire world once BCCI’s plans to catch the Americas populace succeed. One thing is clear IPL is more gripping, more thrilling and more glamorous than soccer. That is why I watch it on TenHD even if its telecast late in the night. It has changed our work hours now. Hats off to Indians to show us what can be done out of a dead sport called Cricket.

All my life, my parents told me that I would do great in life if I studied hard and got a great job, and playing cricket was a waste of time. I did that and got a “great” job that pays USD $30,000 a year…while my school mate who used to cut classes all the time and used to barely pass the exams stands to make only 15 million in 6 weeks. I wish I had stuck to cricket. I always used to get Dhonis wicket in school….

I think a team salary cap should be doubled to be around 10 million. There are many companies in India, that spend more than 25 million a year in marketing. They could use IPL team as primary marketing vehicle for them.

14-15 Million for a player is an imaginary figure. No company or a private investor would be willing to cough up that much. Rajasthan Royals, the team which is currently occupying the top spot in the tournament, did not even spend 5 Million USD during the auction. There were infact chances of them being penalized for it. Moreover, one has to calculate the paychecks in terms of the Indian Rupee [1USD=40 INR]. Indian Companies and other private investors would not be willing to pay that much after buying the team for about 80-100 Million.[3200-4000 Million INR]

Imary, cricket is more than just sledging. All you seem to do is worry abt only sledging. Sure cricket traditionalist would disagree Twenty20, but then, they also never approved Kerry Packer’s Series. Which is now the official ODI’s. Did the Test cricket die? No… and it never will. All cricketers, though they run for money in the Twenty20’s, deep down inside know thier real fix is test cricket.

Cricket as we knew it is rapidly going down the drain and money hungry cricketers are grabbing this new format with both hands. We now have team members playing against each other. When it comes to sledging, I wonder if they sledge their countrymen? I for one who has watched as many test matches as I could have never seen an IPL match and never will never will
